Dr. Jiménez is faculty at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development and the director of Educating Critically. Her work focuses on the representations of marginalized communities in children and YA literature. In addition she supports teachers in bringing social justice and humanizing practices into the classroom.
She is deeply committed to supporting and uplifting marginalized scholars and authors. In both her scholarship and her service to the field she consistently attends to the ways marginalized scholars can teach us how to disrupt racist, misogynist, homophobic, ableist, and Eurocentric norms of education.
Her forthcoming professional text, Judging a Book by More Than Its Cover: A Critical Guide to Choosing Children's Literature (Stenhouse), will be released in October 2026.
