This session shares a year-long, teacher-led anti-racist community of study where educators engaged in reflection, dialogue, and action to confront inequities in their practice. Participants will explore structures that support sustained learning and activism and leave with practical tools to build similar communities, fostering equitable classrooms where all students feel valued, supported, and meaningfully engaged in literacy learning.

This interactive session explores how readers theater can be used to build reading fluency, comprehension, and student confidence across grade levels. Participants will learn practical strategies for implementing readers theater in their classrooms and see how it can support collaboration and engagement for a wide range of learners. Designed for teachers just beginning to explore artificial intelligence, this session will also introduce simple, accessible ways to use AI to create engaging, leveled scripts tailored to students’ needs. Participants will have time to experiment with these tools, so please bring a device and be ready to try it out in real time.

Yes, Really! Small Tweaks that Boost Engagement for All Learners

Everyone engages more when they are interested and excited, and as a result, learning increases! The concept is easy, but designing instruction to optimize student engagement can sometimes feel overwhelming or inauthentic. This session will introduce you to opportunities to respond and why they are important for engagement, and help you realize that specific praise also increases student engagement. Participants will learn two types of responding, with specific examples, synthesize their learning through peer discussions, and observe classroom teachers implementing these techniques.
